Materials: Lana Grossa "Giro" (65% new wool Merino extra fine, 20% polyacrylic, 8% cashmere, 7% Elité, running length approx 164 yrd/50 g): approx 300 (350) g mottled gray (col 14); dpns size 10,5 and 11 (US), 1 circular knitting pin size 10,5 (US), 40 cm long.
Garter stitch:

Work RS and WS rows K. In rnds alt work 1 rnd K and 1 rnd P.
Basketweave-cable pattern: Work acc knitting chart. Nos on the right indicate RS rows, in WS rows work sts as they appear. Horizontally start row with 7 sts preceding arrow a, work patt rep = 6 sts between arrow a and b 5(6)x = 36 sts, work sts between arrow b and c – 29 sts first, after 3. row 34 sts – 1x, work patt rep = 6 sts between arrow c and d 5(6)x = 30 (36) sts, end row with 7 sts after arrow d. Vertically work 1. – 16. row 1x, then always rep 5. – 16. row.
Gauges:

23 sts and 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4" x 4"), basketweave-cable patt with pins size 11; 22 sts center cable after inc = 7 cm broad.

Back: Cast on 80 (94) sts with pins size 10,5. For border work 1 cm = 3 rows in garter st. In last row of border inc 23 (21) sts evenly tbl = 103 (115) sts. Then cont with basketweave-cable patt with pins size 11. After 3. row pin holds 108 (120) sts. When work measures 28 (30) cm = 70 (76) rows from end of border mark armholes on both sides. When armholes measure 19 (20) cm = 48 (50) co all sts straight, thereby alt ktog 1x 2 sts and 1x 3 sts across basketweave-cable patt.
Front: Work like back but with round neckline. To do so co 22 center sts when armholes measure 12 (13) cm = 30 (32) rows, thereby ktog sts like for back piece and cont both sides separately. In every 2. row co another 5x 3 sts each and 2x 1 st each for further shaping of neckline on inner edge. Co rem 26 (32) shoulder sts on outer edge at same height as for back and k sts tog. Finish other side in reverse.
Finishing: Block pieces, dampen and allow to dry. Join shoulder seams. With circular knitting pin pick up 78 sts from edge of neckline. For border work 2 cm = 6 rnds garter st. Then co sts. From edges of armholes pick up 68 (76) sts each with circular knitting pin. For border work 2 cm = 6 rows garter st. Then co sts. Join side-border seams.
