Materials: Lana Grossa "Mega Stoppino Fuso" (65% wool, 35% acrlyic, mt = 90 m/50 g) 350 (400) g mottled gray (col 610). One pair 6 mm and 7 mm needles, one 6 mm circular needle.
Rib pattern: alt K2, P2. Stockinette stitch: K on right side, P on wrong side. Cable pattern A and B: work foll chart A and B.
Gauge: stockinette stitch with 7 mm needles: 14 sts and 19 rows to 10 cm or 4” square. Cable pattern over 22 sts = approx 4 cm or 1 5/8” wide.
Front: cast on 70 (78) sts with 6 mm needles and work 15 cm or 6” in rib pattern as foll: edge st, P1, K2, * P2, K2, rep from *, P1, edge st. Cont with 7 mm needles as foll: edge st, 12 (16) sts stockinette stitch, 14 sts cable pattern A, 16 sts stockinette stitch, 14 sts cable pattern B, 12 (16) sts stockinette stitch, edge st. On 3rd row inc 8 sts each as given for cable patterns = 86 (94) sts.When work measures 31 cm or 12 1/4” from beginning bind off the 4 center sts for V-neck and finish each side separately. At neck edge dec 1 st on every 10th row 6 times. At the same time, after 45 cm or 17 3/4” from beginning bind off for armholes at each end on every alt row 4 sts once, 2 sts once, 1 st 2 (4) times. On last right side row before reaching needed length: work 2 sts tog over 18 cable sts (K or K tbl) = 9 cable sts. Then bind off rem shoulder sts, over cable sts work tog alt 2 sts once and 3 sts once.
Back: start as given for front. After border cont with 7 mm needles as foll: edge st, 12 (16) sts stockinette stitch, 14 sts cable pattern A, 16 sts stockinette stitch, 14 sts cable pattern B, 12 (16) sts stockinette stitch, edge st. On 3rd row inc 8 sts each as given for cable patterns = 86 (94) sts. Shape armholes on either side as for front = 70 (74) sts. When work measures 63 cm or 24 3/4” bind off for neck the 6 center sts. At neck edge bind off on every alt row 3 sts once and 2 sts once. Work dec over cables as the same height and given as for front, bind off rem shoulder sts, over cable sts work tog alt 2 sts once and 3 sts once.
Finishing: join shoulder and side seams. For neck band pick up from center neck and over front neck edges with circular needle approx 62 sts and work 3 cm or 1 1/8” in rib pattern, bind off. Work opposite band half alike. Join back seam of bands, at center front position right band over left band. For armhole bands pick up with circular needle along edges approx 68 sts each and work 2 cm or 13/16” in rounds in rib pattern, then bind off.
