Material: Lana Grossa "Royal Tweed" (100% Merino Wool fine, each ball = 100 m/50 g) 850 (900) g gray/brown mix (color #44). Knitting needles, one pair size 5,5 mm (US 9), one long circular needle size 5,5 mm (US 9) or size to obtain gauge. Cable needle (cn).
Rib Pattern: K2, P2 Rib.
Stockinette stitch (St st): K on WS rows, P on WS rows.
Cable pat A: follow Chart A.
Cable pat B: follow Chart B. Cable pat C: follow Chart C. Note: Work rows 1 - 22 three times, then rep rows 23 - 44 rows once, then rep rows 1 – 10 once.
Note: Work the rows not shown on charts as K the knit sts and P the purl sts.
Gauge: in St st 16 sts and 23 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4“.
Left Front: With size 5,5 mm (US 9) needles, cast on 46 (49) sts and K 1 row on WS. Cont in pats as foll: 1 selvage st, 5 (8) sts in St st, 6 sts Cable pat A, 6 sts in St st, 12 sts Cable pat B, 6 sts in St st, 6 sts Cable pat A, 3 sts in St st, 1 selvage st. Cont in pats as established until piece measures 44 cm/17 1/2“ from beg. For the neck shaping, dec 1 st at LH side on next row, then every 8th row 9 times more, AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 58 cm/23“ from beg, for the armhole shaping, bind off 12 sts at RH side. Work even until piece measures 78 cm/30 3/4“ from beg. For the shoulder shaping, bind off from RH side 6 sts 4 times (6 sts once, 7 sts 3 times). Right Front: Work to correspond to Left Front, reversing all shaping.
Back: Cast on 109 (115) sts and K 1 row on WS. Then work in pats as foll: 1 selvage st, 5 (8) sts in St st, 6 sts Cable pat A, 6 sts in St st, 12 sts Cable pat B, 6 sts in St st, 6 sts Cable pat A, 25 sts in St st, 6 sts Cable pat A, 6 sts in St st, 12 sts Cable pat B, 6 sts in St st, 6 sts Cable pat A, 5 (8) sts in St st, 1 selvage st. Work armhole and shoulder shaping each side same as Fronts, AT THE SAME TIME, at the beginning of shoulder shaping, for the neck shaping, bind off center 31 sts, and working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 2 sts once and 1 st once.
Sleeves: Cast on 46 sts and work in Rib pat for 14 cm/5 1/2“, and inc 6 sts evenly spaced across last row = 52 sts. Then work in pats as foll: 1 selvage st, 11 sts in St st, 28 sts Cable pat C, 11 sts in St st, 1 selvage st. Work Cable pat C as foll: work rows 1 – 22 twice, then rows 1 – 44 once, then rows 1 – 8 once. For the side shaping, inc 1 st each side every 10th row 8 times and work inc sts into St st = 68 sts. Work even until piece measures approx 56 cm/22“ from beg. Bind off sts.
Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. For the front bands and collar, with RS facing and circular needle, beg at lower edge of Right Front, pick up and K 52 sts along straight front edge, 48 sts along front neck, 40 sts along back neck, 48 sts along left front neck and 52 sts along left front straight edge = 240 sts. Work in Rib pat, working short rows for collar over the center 40 back neck sts as foll: Next row (WS): Work 144 sts, with yarn at front of work slip next st, bring yarn to back of work between needles and return slipped st to LH needle, turn (called wrap & turn, w&t), work 48 sts, w&t. Next row (WS): Work 52 sts, w&t, work 56 sts, w&t. Cont in this way to work 4 more sts at end of every row (working w&t at every turn) until 48 sts of Left and Right Front V-neck have been worked. Cont in Rib pat over all sts, working wrap tog with corresponding st on needle to close up holes. Work even for 12 cm/4 3/4“ more, then bind off. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
