Materials: Lana Grossa "Cinque" (53% New Wool Merino, 47% polyacrylic, running length = approx 153 yrd/50 g): approx 500 (550) g mottled brown (col 12); knitting needles size 7 (US), 1 circular knitting needle size 7 (US), 47" long, 1 crochet hook size G-6 (US).
Rib pattern: 

In RS rows alt work K1 tbl, P2. In WS rows work sts as they appear.

Accented cast off:  Right edge: Selv st, work foll sts as foll = Sl1 kwise, work foll st K resp ktog foll 2 sts and psso. Left edge: Apart from last 3 resp 4 sts work sts acc to patt, then ktog 2 resp 3 sts, selv st
Accented inrease:

Right edge: Selv st, K1 tbl, then make 1 resp 2 acc to patt. Left edge: Apart from last 2 sts work sts acc patt, then inc 1 resp 2 sts tbl, k1 tbl, selv st.

Gauge:  22 sts and 26 rows in rib patt = 10 x 10 cm (approx 4" x 4"), measured slightly stretched.
Attention:Arrows in chart indicate direction of knitting!
Left upper front with sleeve:Cast on 51 (57) sts. Work rib patt, thereby work sequence of sts as foll: Selv st, alt K1 tbl, P2, end row with K1 tbl and selv st. After 1 cm = in 5. row from beg dec 1 st on left edge for neckline slant and work acc co, then co another 17x 1 st each in every 4. row and work acc co. As soon as after 7 (8) cm = 18 (22) rows from beg inc 1 st on right edge for rounding of kimono and sleeve, then inc another 1x 2 sts, 1x 3 sts, 1x 4 sts, 6x 11 sts each, 1x 12 sts and 1x 17 sts in every 2. row. Insert inc into patt acc. Now length of sleeve is completed. Change to circular knitting needle with inc sts. On right edge cont straight on for width of sleeve. On left edge cont neckline slant as indicated. After 13 cm = 34 rows from last inc for sleeve, center of shoulder is reached. Leave rem 138 (144) sts rem.
Right upper front with sleeve:Work in reverse to left upper front with sleeve.
Back with sleeve:Place sts left rem = 138 (144) sts each on circular knitting needle again and cast on another 21 add sts in between for back edge of neckline = 297 (309) sts. Work back piece with sleeves in one piece across all sts in rib patt and inreverse. After 13 cm = 24 rows from beg of back piece co 17 sts on both sides for sleeve slants, then co another 1x 12 sts, 6x 11 st, 1x 4 sts, 1x 3 sts, 1x 2 sts and 1x 1 st in every 2. row = 87 (99) sts. Then cont straight on. After 7 (8) cm = 18 (22) rows from last dec co all sts as they appear.
Lower front pieces with ribbons an lower back piece:Work crosswise, see arrow in chart. For left binding ribbon cast on 18 sts. Work in rib patt, thereby work sts as foll in 1. row: Selv st, alt K1 tbl, P2, end row with K1 tbl and selv st. After 76 cm = 198 rows from beg inc 1st on each side for slants and work acc inc, then inc another V 1x 2 sts and 2x 1 st each in every 2. row and work acc inc, from V rep 4x, then inc another 1x 2 sts and 1x 1 st and work acc inc = 66 sts. Integrate inc sts acc rib patt on both sides. After 14 cm = 36 rows from end of ribbon slants are completed. Now cont straight. After 23 (25) cm = 60 (66) rows from end of slants mark end of left front on both sides. Ater another 40 (44) cm = 104 (114) rows from marker mark end of back piece. In foll RS row co 14 center sts for draw through ribbon and in next WS row cast 14 sts back on again. Now cont right front straight. After 23 (25) cm = 60 (66) rows from 2. marker co 1 st on each side for slants and work acc co, then co another 1x 2 sts in every 2. row and work acc co, co another V 1x 2 sts and 2x 1 st each and work acc co, from V rep 4x, then co another 1x 1 st = 18 sts. For right binding ribbon work another 38 cm = 98 rows in rib patt across these sts. Then co sts.
Finishing:

Block piece, dampen and allow to dry. Fold piece by half so that cast on and cast off edges meet. Join each side seams up to marker. Leave 16 cm open each for armholes. For wearing part piece at center to top and bottom, see sketch. Armholes are placed sideways. Attention: If you prefer a shorter version of the cape just fold it over at neckline several times!
