Materials:
approx. 6 (7, 8) balls (approx. 121yd/110m each) of Lana Grossa Divino (75% cotton, 25% viscose) in white (col 15); size 6 [4mm] needles, knitting spool, size E/4 [3.5mm] crochet hook.
St st:
k on RS; p on WS.
Main Pattern:
multiple of 4 + 2 selvage sts. Work according to chart. Chart shows RS rows only. on WS rows, work sts as they appear or according to chart key. Repeat rows 1-4 throughout. 1 square = 1 st and 2 rows.
Full-fashioned decreases:
at right edge, selvage st, k4, SKP [sl1 kwise, k1, psso]; at left dge, work to last 7 sts, k2tog, k4, selvage st.
Gauge:
18 sts and 22 rows = 4” [10 cm] in main pat; 6 sts and 22 rows = 1” x 4” [2.5 x 10 cm] in St st.
Back:
with double stranded longtail cast on, cast on 78 (86, 94) sts and work in main pat ccording to chart until back measures 12¼ (12½, 13)” [31 (32, 33) cm] from beg. Shape armholes: bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of foll 2 rows and 1 st at beg of foll 4 rows. Work 2 rows even. Bind off 1 st at beg of foll 2 rows – 62 (70, 78) sts. Cont in main pat as established until back measures 19¾ (20½, 21 ¼)” [50 (52, 54) cm] from beg. Shape neck: work to center 28 sts, join another ball of yarn, bind off center 28 sts, work to end. Working both sides at same time, work even in main pat as established until back measures 20 (20¾, 21¾)” [51 (53, 55) cm] from beg. Bind off remaining 17 (21, 25) sts for each shoulder.
Left Front:
with double stranded long-tail cast on, cast on 43 (47, 51) sts and position sts as foll: selvage st, work 36 (40, 44) sts in main pat according to chart, work 6 sts [incl selvage st] in St st for front band. Work in pat as established until left front measures 11¾ (12¼, 12½)” [30 (31, 32) cm] from beg. Shape front neck: working full-fashion decs, dec 1 st at left edge once, then every foll 4th row 10 times. At same time, when same length as back to armhole, shape armhole at right edge same as for back. Cont in main pat as established until left front measures same length as back to shoulder. Bind off 17 (21, 25) shoulder sts at right edge – 7 sts remain for neck band extension. Work 4” [10 cm] more in St st, then sl sts to holder.
Right Front:
work same as for left front, reversing all shaping.
Sleeves:
with double stranded long-tail cast on, cast on 42 (46, 50) sts. Work in main at according to chart and shape sleeve as foll: inc 1 st each end of needle every 10th row 4 times, then every foll 8th row 6 times (every 8th row 12 times / every 8th row 7 times nd every foll 6th row 7 times) – 62 (70, 78) sts. Cont in main pat as established until sleeve measures 17¼ (18, 18¾)” [43.5 (45.5, 47.5) cm] from beg. Shape sleeve cap: bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of foll 2 rows, 1 st at beg of foll 20 (16, 12) rows, 2 sts at beg of foll 2 rows and 3 sts at beg of foll 2 rows. When sleeve easures 22¼” [56.5cm] from beg, bind off remaining 22 (34, 46) sts.
Finishing:
pin pieces to measurements and block with damp towels. Sew shoulder seams. Graft right and left neck bands tog, then sew side edges of neck bands to back neck edge. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. With knitting spool, make a 55 (58¼, 61½)” [140 (148, 156) cm] long cord and weave through fabric, approx. 8¾ (9½, 10¼)” [22 (24, 26) cm] up from lower edge.
