Materials: Lana Grossa "Gala" (48% silk, 24% rayon, 17% linen, 11% polyamide, running length = approx 104 yrd/50 g): approx 600 (700) g aubergine (col 32); knitting needles size 6 (US) and 1 circular knitting needle size 6 (US), 80 cm long; 4 buttons by Union Knopf, art. 48585, size 20, col lilac.
Garter stitch:

Work RS and WS rows K.

Spikey lace pattern: Work acc knitting chart. Figures on the right indicate RS rows, in WS rows work sts P resp as indicated in foll legend. The exact horizontal sequence of patts is indicated in foll instruction, always work patt rep = 10 sts between arrows. Vertically always work 1. – 14. row.
Gauge:

20 sts and 22,5 rows spikey lace patt = 10 x 10 cm (4" x 4").

Back: Cast on 123 (143) sts. For border work 1 cm = 3 rows in garter st, thereby start with 1 WS row. Then cont in spikey lace patt as foll: start row with sts before 1. arrow, work patt rep between arrows 10(12)x, end row with sts after 2. arrow. For slants on both sides co 10 sts each as indicated up to 97. row = 103 (123) sts. After 43,5 cm = 98 rows from end of border place 1 marker on each side and cont straight. After 13,5 cm = 30 rows from marker co 10 sts on each side for armholes = 83 (103) sts. When armholes measure 20 (21) cm = 46 (48) rows co all sts in one go.
Left front:

Cast on 63 (73) sts. For border work 1 cm = 3 rows in garter st, thereby start with 1 WS row. Then cont in spikey lace patt as foll: start row with sts before 1. arrow, work patt rep between arrows 5(6)x, end row with sts after 2. arrow and selv st. Work slants and armhole on right side at same height as back = 43 (53) sts. When armholes measure 7 (8) cm = 16 (18) rows co 5 sts on left edge for neckline, for further shaping of neckline co another 1x 4 sts, 1x 3 sts, 4x 2 sts each and 5x 1 st each in every 2. row. Co rem 18 (28) shoulder sts on right edge in same height as back.

Right front: Work in reverse to left front, thereby start at spikey lace patt on right edge at 1. arrow after selv st, work patt rep 5(6)x and end row with sts after 2. arrow.
Sleeve:

Cast on 63 sts. For border work 1 cm = 3 rows in garter st, thereby start with 1 WS row. Then cont in spikey lace patt as foll: Selv st, 6 patt reps = 60 sts, 1 st after 2. arrow, selv st. After 28 cm = 62 rows from end of border inc 1 st on each side for slants, then inc another 9(7)x 1 st each in every 4. row and in every 2. row inc another 0(4)x 1 st each = 83 (87) sts. Integrate inc sts consistently into spikey lace patt. After 17 cm = 38 rows from 1. inc place 1 marker on each side and cont straight. After 5 cm = 12 rows from marker co all sts straight.

Finishing:

Block pieces, dampen and allow to dry. Join seams, join sleeve seams up to markers. Pick up 116 sts from edge of neckline with circular knitting needle. For border work garter st. When border measures 1,5 cm = 5 rows co sts. Then pick up 115 sts each from vertical edges of front pieces incl small sides of bands with circular knitting needle. For border work garter st. When border measures 1 cm work 1 buttonhole into right front piece at a height of 40 cm from lower edge, space rem 3 buttonholes evenly up to beg of neckline. For each buttonhole co 2 sts and cast these sts back on again in foll row. When each border measures 2 cm = 7 co sts. Sew in sleeves. Sew on buttons.
