Materials: Lana Grossa "Gala", 48% silk, 24% rayon, 17% linen, 11% polyamide, approx. 450 (550) g purple (col 21); knitting needles, size 4 mm (US 6 / UK 8); crochet hook, size 3 mm (US D/3 / UK 10); 6 buttons from UNION KNOPF, art. 46002, col 60, size 20.
Ruffle pattern: See knitting chart, which shows Rs and Ws rows. The sts are shown as they appear on the Rs. Work rows 1 – 10. 1 square = 1 st and 1 row.
Basic pattern: Number of sts divisible by 9. Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7: * k 1, 1 yo, k 2, k 3 tog, k 2, 1 yo, k 1, rep from * cont. Row 2 and all Ws rows: P all sts and yo’s. Row 9: * k 2, 1 yo, k 1, k 3 tog, k 1, 1 yo, k 2, rep from * cont. Row 11: * k 3, 1 yo, k 3 tog, 1 yo, k 3, rep from * cont. Rep rows 1 – 12 cont.
Stocking stitch (Stst): k Rs rows, p Ws rows.
Garter stitch (Gst): K all Rs and Ws rows.
Full-fashioned decreases: Right edge: edge st, k 1, k 2 tog. Left edge: 1 slip dec (= slip 1 k-wise, k foll st, psso), k 1, edge st.
Full-fashioned increases: Right edge: edge st, k 1, pick up yarn to foll st and k 1 tbl. Left edge: Pick up yarn to foll st and k 1 tbl, k 1, edge st.
Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in basic pattern with 4 mm needles.
Left front: With 4 mm needles, cast on 101 (123) sts and work 10 rows in ruffle pattern as foll: edge st, rep PR 9 (11) times, edge st. As a result of the pattern, 6 sts are dec per PR (= 47 (57) sts). In the last row of the ruffle pattern, dec 1 more st (= 46 (56) sts). Cont in basic pattern and in Stst as foll: edge st, 6 (7) sts Stst, 36 (45) sts basic pattern (= rep PR 4 (5) times), 2 sts Stst, edge st. When work measures 7 cm (2 3/4 inches) from beg, bind off 1 st on right edge and work hip shaping as foll: on right edge, dec 1 st in every 6th row 4 more times (on right edge, dec 1 st in every 8th row 2x, then in every 6th row 2x), always working full-fashioned decs. When work measures 22 (23) cm (8 3/4 [9 1/8] inches) from beg, inc 1 st on right edge and work side shaping as foll: on right edge, inc 1 st in every 6th row 5 more times, always working full-fashioned incs. When work measures 36 (37) cm (14 1/4 [14 1/2] inches) from beg, bind off 3 sts on right edge for armhole and shape armhole as foll: on right edge, in every other row, bind off 2 sts 1x and 1 st 2 (3) times (= 40 (49) sts). When work measures 49 (52) cm (19 1/4 [20 1/2] inches) from beg, bind off 5 sts on left edge for neck and shape neck as foll: on left edge, in every other row, bind off 3 sts 1x, 2 sts 2x, and 1 st 3x. When work measures 56 (59) cm (22 1/4 [23 1/4] inches) from beg, bind off rem 25 (34) sts.
Right front: Work as for left front, reversing shaping.
Back: With 4 mm needles, cast on 189 (222) sts and work 10 rows in ruffle pattern as foll: edge st, rep PR 17 (20) times, edge st. As a result of the pattern, 6 sts are dec per PR (= 87 (102) sts). In the last row of the ruffle pattern, dec 1 more st (inc 4 more sts) (= 86 (106) sts). Cont in basic pattern and in Stst as foll: edge st, 6 (7) sts Stst, 72 (90) sts basic pattern (= rep PR 8 (10) times), 6 (7) sts Stst, edge st. Work hip shaping, side shaping, and armholes as for left front, but on both sides. When work measures 56 (59) cm (22 1/4 [23 1/4] inches) from beg, bind off rem sts.
Sleeves: With 4 mm needles, cast on 90 sts and work 10 rows in ruffle pattern as foll: edge st, rep PR 8 times, edge st. As a result of the pattern, 6 sts are dec per PR (= 42 sts). Cont in basic pattern and in Stst as foll: edge st, 2 sts Stst, 36 sts basic pattern (= rep PR 4 times), 2 sts Stst, edge st. When sleeve measures 11 cm (4 1/2 inches) from beg, inc 1 st on each side then shape sleeve as foll: inc 1 st on each side of every 6th row 12x (inc 1 st on each side of every 6th row 4x and on each side of every 4th row 12x), working inc sts in Stst str. When sleeve measures 41 cm (16 1/4 inches) from beg, bind off 3 (4) sts on each side and shape sleeve cap as foll: on each side of every other row bind off 2 sts 1 (2) time(s), 1 st 18 (16) times, 2 sts 0 (1) times, and 4 sts 1x. When work measures 57 cm (22 1/2 inches) from beg, bind off rem sts. Make 2nd sleeve identically.
Finishing: Block pieces foll diagram and dampen lightly. Sew seams. With 4 mm knitting needles, pick up approx. 82 sts from left front edge and work 5 rows of Gst. Then, with the 3 mm crochet hook, crochet 1 row of sc and 1 row of shrimp stitch (= sc, worked from left to right) along edge. Work the same band on right front edge, working 6 buttonholes in the 3rd row of Gst. Work the 1st buttonhole approx. 1 cm (3/8 inch) from neck edge and space rem buttonholes, each 8 cm (3 1/4 inches) apart. Now pick up approx. 74 sts from neck edge, including narrow edges of front bands, and work same bands as on front edges. Sew buttons in place.
