Materials: Lana Grossa "Cambio", 70% cotton, 30% polyamide, approx. 350 (400/450) g black (col 11); knitting needles, sizes 3 mm and 4 mm (US 2-3 and 6/ UK 11 and 8); crochet hook, size 3 mm (US D/3 / UK 10)
Rib pattern: k1, p1 alt
Basic pattern: Number of sts divisible by 6 + 1 + edge st. Work foll knitting chart, which shows Rs and Ws rows. The sts are shown as they are worked. Rep rows 1 – 4 cont. 1 square = 1 sts and 1 row.
Gauge: 21 sts and 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in basic pattern with 4 mm needles.
Front: With 3 mm needles, cast on 88 (94/100) sts and work 9 (9/10) cm (3 1/2 [3 1/2 / 4] inches) in rib pattern. In the last Ws row, inc 23 sts, evenly spaced (= 111 (117/123) sts). Change to 4 mm needles and cont in basic pattern, working the 1st Rs row as foll: edge st, 36 (39/42) sts basic pattern, then cast on 37 sts for the underlap (= 74 (77/80) sts). Place the rem 74 (77/80) sts on a holder. Cont with the left front half, shaping neck as foll: bind off 1 st on left edge of every other row 7x, then bind off 1 st on left edge of every 4th row 21 (20/19) times, and on left edge of every 6th row 6 (7/8) times. When basic pattern measures 13 (14/15) cm (5 1/4 [5 1/2 / 6] inches) from beg, inc 1 st on right edge for sleeve and shape sleeve as foll: on right edge of every other row, inc 1 st 3x, 2 sts 5x, 3 sts 4x, and 4 sts 1x. When basic pattern measures 41 (42/43) cm (16 1/4 [16 1/2 / 17] inches), bind off 8 sts on right edge for shoulder and shape shoulder as foll: on right edge of every other row, bind off 7 sts 2x, 6 sts 2x, 5 sts 2x, and 4 sts 1x. Then bind off rem 22 (25/28) sts. For the right front, pick up the 74 (77/80) sts from the holder again and work in basic pattern with 4 mm needles. Work right front as for left front, reversing shaping.
Back: Back: With 3 mm needles, cast on 88 (94/100) sts and work 9 (9/10) cm (3 1/2 [3 1/2 / 4] inches) in rib pattern. In the last Ws row, inc 23 sts, evenly spaced (= 111 (117/123) sts). Change to 4 mm needles and cont in basic pattern. When basic pattern measures 13 (14/15) cm (5 1/4 [5 1/2 / 6] inches) from beg, inc 1 st on each edge for sleeves and shape sleeves as foll: on each edge of every other row, inc 1 st 3x, 2 sts 5x, 3 sts 4x, and 4 sts 1x. When basic pattern measures 44 (45/46) cm (17 1/4 [17 3/4 / 18] inches), bind off center 21 sts for neck and shape neck as foll: at neck edge, in every other row, bind off 3 sts 1x and 2 sts 1x. Then bind off rem 22 (25/28) sts.
Finishing: Block all pieces foll diagram dampen lightly. Sew seams. Sew underlap in place. Crochet along front and neck edges and along sleeve edges with 1 row or rnd sc and 1 row or rnd of shrimp stitch.
