Materials: Lana Grossa quality "Point Print", 96% cotton, 4% elastan, approx 500 (550) g light green (col 503), one pair 4 mm and 4 ½ mm needles and 5 buttons.
Border pattern: Alt K1, P1.
Basic pattern: Stockinette stitch (K on Rs, P on Ws).
Diagonal ribs 1: Inc 1 st knitwise tbl and K, K1, 1 slip dec (= slip 1 knitwise, K1, psso). Work these inc resp. dec on every alt row 25 times.
Diagonal ribs 2: K2 tog, K1, inc 1 st knitwise tbl and K. Rep these dec resp. inc on every alt row 25 times.
Visible dec: Right edge: edge st, K3, K2 tog. Left edge: 1 slip dec (= slip 1 knitwise, K1, psso), K3, edge st.
Visible inc: Right edge: edge st, K3, inc 1 st knitwise tbl. Left edge: inc 1 st knitwise tbl, K3, edge st.
Gauge: 20 sts and 29 rows to 10 cm or 4" square (basic patt with 4 ½ mm needles).
Back: Cast on 86 (98) sts using 4 mm needles and work 8 rows in border patt. Cont with size 4 ½ mm needles in basic patt. After 4 rows in basic patt work diagonal ribs: edge st, K7 (9), 3 sts diagonal ribs 1, K64 (72), 3 sts diagonal ribs 2, K7 (9), edge st. At the same time, dec for hip shaping 1 st on every 6th row 4 times, working visible dec. Then inc for side shaping 1 st at each end on every 8th row 4 times, working visible inc. When work measures 32 (34) cm or 12 ½ (13 ¼)" bind off for armholes 3 sts at each end once, then dec 1 st on every alt row 8 times, working visible dec. When work measures 53 (55) cm or 20 7/8 (21 ¾)" bind off rem sts.
Left front: Cast on 50 (56) sts using 4 mm needles and work 8 rows in border patt. Cont with 4 ½ mm needles as foll: edge st, 42 (48) sts basic patt, 6 sts rib patt, starting with P1, edge st. P edge sts on right side and wrong side rows. After 8 rows in basic patt work diagonal ribs 1: edge st, K7 (9), 3 sts diagonal ribs 1, work rem sts. At the same time, dec for hip shaping at right edge 1 st on every 6th row 4 times, working visible dec. Then inc for side shaping at right edge 1 st on every 8th row 4 times, working visible inc. When work measures 32 (34) cm or 12 ½ (13 ¼)" bind off for armhole at right edge 3 sts once, then dec 1 st on every alt row 8 times, working visible dec. At the same time, then work measures 32 (34) cm or 12 ½ (13 ¼)" inc for lapel 2 sts on every 4th row between sts 6 and 7 from end 10 times, work inc sts in border patt, at the same time, between basic patt and border patt, K2 tog on every 6th row 10 times. Right front: here work 10 times 1 slip dec (= slip 1 knitwise, K1, psso). When work measures 46 (48) cm or 18 ½ (18 7/8)" bind off for neck at left edge 26 sts once. Over rem sts cont back in basic patt, when work measures 53 (55) cm or 20 7/8 (21 ¾)" bind off rem sts.
Right front: work as given for left front, working in reverse. Work 5 buttonholes: (from right edge) edge st, K1, P1, K1, 1 yo, P2 tog, work rem sts. Work 1st buttonhole after approx 6 (7) cm or 2 3/8 (2 ¾)", rem buttonholes spaced 6 (7) cm or 2 3/8 (2 ¾)" apart.
Sleeves: Cast on 48 sts using 4 mm needles and work 8 rows in border patt. Cont with 4 ½ mm needles in basic patt. When work measures 10 cm or 4" inc for sleeve shaping 1 st at each end on every 6th row 10 times. When work measures 40 cm or 15 ¾" bind off for sleeve top at each end on every alt row 3 sts once and 1 st 22 times. When work measures 57 cm or 22 ½" bind off rem sts. Work 2nd sleeve alike.
Finishing: Block pieces to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and leave to dry. Join seams. Round neck, from each time the 26th bound-off st of lapel, pick up with 4 ½ mm needles approx 51 sts and work approx 10 cm or 4" in border patt, on 4th row inc: edge st, K1, P1, K1, inc 2 sts, ... inc 2 sts, K1, P1, K1, edge st. Rep these inc on every 4th row twice. Bind off sts as set. Sew collar half to lapel. Sew on buttons.
