Material:
approx. 13 (14, 15) balls (approx. 44yd/40m each) of Lana Grossa Elle (42% merino wool, 58% polyacryl) in light grey/black (col 10); size 13 and 15 [9 and 10mm] needles, size 13 and 15 [9 and 10mm] circular needle, 16” [40cm] long, cable needle [cn].
Selvage Stitches:
p on RS and WS.
St st:
k on RS; p on WS.
St st in rnds:
k every rnd.
Rev st st:
p on RS; k on WS.
Rev st st in rnds:
p every rnd.
Cable Pattern:
work according to chart on page 43. Row a indicates last WS row of rolled edge. Increase 3 sts on row a as charted – 12 sts. Numbers at right edge of chart indicate RS rows and odd numbered rnds; on WS rows, p all sts, on even numbered rnds, k all sts. Repeat rows/rnds 1-12 throughout.
Full-fashioned decrease A:
at beg of row, selvage st, k2, p2tog; at end of row, work to last 5 sts, p2tog, k2, selvage st – 1 st decreased at each edge. At beg of row, selvage st, k2, p3tog; at end of row, work to last 6 sts, p3tog, k2, selvage st – 2 sts decreased at each edge.
Full-fashioned decrease B:
at beg of row, selvage st, p2tog; at end of row, work to last 3 sts, p2tog, selvage st – 1 st decreased at each edge. At beg of row, selvage st, p3tog; at end of row, work to last 4 sts, p3tog, selvage st – 2 sts decreased at each edge.
Full-fashioned increases:
work M1l increase, 3 sts in from each edge.
Gauge:
9.5 sts and 14.5 rows = 4” [10 cm] in rev St st on larger needles; 12 sts = approx. 4” [10 cm] in cable pat.
Back:
with smaller needles, cast on 47 (51, 55) sts. Rolled edge: beg with a WS row, work in St st for ¾” [2 cm], ending with a RS row. Next, work row a according to chart, increasing 3 sts across center 9 sts as charted – 50 (54, 58) sts. Change to larger needles and position sts as foll: selvage st, work 2 sts in St st, work 16 (18, 20) sts in rev St st, work 12 sts in cable pat according to chart, work 16 (18, 20) sts in rev St st, work 2 sts in St st, selvage st. Work in pat as established until back measures 4” [10 cm] from rolled edge. Shape sides: cont in pat as established and dec 1 st each end of needle on next row, then every foll 10th row once, then every foll 8th row once – 44 (48, 52) sts. Work full-fashioned dec A. Cont in pat as established until back measures 5” [13 cm] from first decrease. Place waist markers at right and left edge. Cont in pat as established and inc 1 st each end of needle on 9th row from waist markers, then every foll 10th row once – 48 (52, 56) sts. Work full-fashioned incs. Cont in pat as established until back measures 5” [13 cm] from first increase. Shape armhole: bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Working full-fashioned dec A, dec 1 st each end of needle every other row twice, then every foll 4th row once – 38 (42, 46) sts. Note: after armhole bind-off has been worked, continue to work first 2 sts after selvage st and last 2 sts before selvage st in St st as before. Cont in pat as established until armhole measures 7 ¾ (8 ¼, 8 ¾)” [20 (21, 22) cm]. Shape shoulders: bind off 4 (5, 6) sts at each shoulder edge once, 3 (4, 5) sts once. Sl remaining 24 sts to holder.
Front:
work same as for back.
Sleeves:
with smaller needles, cast on 27 sts and work rolled edge same as for back. Change to larger needles and position sts as foll: selvage st, work 2 sts in St st, work 21 sts in rev St st, work 2 sts in St st, selvage st. Work in pat as established and shape sleeve as foll: working full-fashioned inc, inc 1 st each end of needle on 21st row from rolled edge, then every foll 12th (10, 8th) row 3 (4, 5) times more – 35 (37, 39) sts. Cont in pat as established until sleeve measures 12 ½” [32 cm] from first increase. Shape sleeve cap: bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Working full-fashioned dec B, dec 2 sts each end of needle once, then dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 7 times, then dec 2 sts each end of needle every other row once. Bind off remaining 9 (11, 13) sts.
Finishing:
pin pieces to measurements and block with damp towels. Sew all seams. Collar: sl 24 back neck sts and 24 front neck sts from holders to larger circular needle – 48 sts. Join for working in rnds. Work in pat as established and at same time, dec 4 sts evenly on first rnd as foll: p2tog twice at each shoulder – 44 sts. When collar measures 2 ¼” [6 cm] from beg, dec 6 sts evenly across cable pat – 38 sts. Change to smaller circular needle and work in St st for 5 rnds. Bind off all sts loosely. Sew in sleeves.
